Thomas Edison

Thomas Alva Edison invented the light bulb on October 19, 1879. He wanted to make a light that would not cause any fires or make people dirty by standing near the light, and would be cheap so people could buy it. He tried 3,000 different ways to make it but only one of them worked. The way he made the first light bulb was that he took some carbon and metal and attached them and pumped the air out of the bulb. Then he sat back and waited a few minutes and then he pumped more air out because the carbon was burning out too soon. The first light bulb lasted for more than forty hours. When Thomas Edison died in 1931, everyone across the country turned off his or her lights out of respect.
