Pioneer Diary May 6, 1870

The day is getting warmer. I went outside to feed the chickens and saw more signs of spring. Prairie wildflowers were popping up everywhere. I found three eggs from our chickens, Hilda, Merry, and Daphne. Mother made a delicious omelet for us with the eggs. I was rocking Baby Joy when Joseph burst into the house. He said that he had shot two groundhogs for dinner and wanted Mother to keep their fur and make him a hat. Once, Joseph took me into the wheat field and showed me a bird's nest hidden between the stalks.
