Pioneer Diary March 29, 1871

Last night, I heard Pa talking to Mother. He said that we might have to leave Kansas if the crops fail this year. We need the money from the crops when Pa sells the wheat, corn and potatoes. If something happens to the crops, we will be very poor. I worked in the fields today and found out how hot just working in the sun is. I got a drink from the cold water of the well and Mother called me to bring water to Joseph and Pa. Indians came to the house again but this time, they only wanted to trade for food. They gave us some blankets made of bear hide. I made supper and stirred the hot fire. The stew sizzled and cooked. Mother called Joseph and Pa in to eat supper and everyone said that it was good stew.
